This $750,000 Project Grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program will develop, test, and evaluate two experiential education curricula focused on agricultural technologies for youth. The first curriculum, "SkyMappers: Agricultural Drones and GIS Mastery," targets skills in uncrewed aerial systems, remote sensing, and geographic information systems for agriculture. The second curriculum, "Dronovation: Cultivating Change with Teens," will engage youth in applying their learning to real-world agricultural projects in their local communities. The curricula and educator professional development guide will be designed for replication in diverse educational settings, with a focus on engaging underrepresented groups in STEM, including female and Latino youth. After three years, the project will disseminate the evidence-based, culturally relevant curricula, professional development guide, and implementation briefs for use in non-formal educational contexts across the United States.
