The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded a $500,196.00 Project Grant to the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska, doing business as the University of Nebraska, to study the consequences of incomplete consumer consideration in food markets. This research is funded under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (CFDA 10.310), which aims to address key issues in food and agricultural sciences through fundamental and applied research, extension, and education. The key objectives of this 4-year project are to: 1) document the prevalence of incomplete consideration in real economic choice using choice-process data; 2) investigate policy/intervention tools available due to incomplete consideration; 3) assess the impact of incomplete consideration on estimates of consumer attribute valuation; and 4) examine the implications of incomplete consideration on the external validity of experimental designs. The findings from this research are expected to advance the understanding of consumer decision-making in complex food markets and provide insights for improving research methods and policy design.
