The Ohio State University received a $349,920 Rural Health and Safety Education (RHSE) Competitive Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (CFDA 10.516) to expand their work addressing opioid overdoses, mental health issues, and suicide prevention in rural communities.
With this 3-year grant, the University will deliver online and in-person prevention education programs, including Generation Rx for safe medicine practices, Mental Health First Aid training, and other mental health support initiatives. The grant will allow the University to expand their programming to 13 counties, 10 of which are in Appalachia, and train local educators to continue delivering these community-based prevention and mental health services on an ongoing basis. Pre- and post-testing will be used to measure knowledge gains and behavior change intent among participants.
