Project Grant 20226701536335
- The Texas A&M Agrilife Research received a three-year, $650,000 Project Grant award from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grants program (CFDA #10.310). The grant will fund research to develop preventative strategies against Rhodococcus equi (R. equi) pneumonia in foals. Key products and services include determining whether administering virulent or avirulent R. equi...
- This $650,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (CFDA 10.310) aims to develop an innovative toolbox for equine rotavirus research. The key objectives are to: 1) Isolate equine rotavirus strains, determine their full-length gene sequences, and produce representative viral variants; and 2) Use this genetic tool to characterize genetic variations in equine rotaviruses and...
- This $649,896 federal Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program supports the development and testing of an mRNA vaccine cocktail against influenza A viruses (IAV) in livestock. The project aims to create a universal influenza vaccine that can provide broad protection against diverse IAV strains, including highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1...
- This $300,000 federal Project Grant award from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (CFDA 10.310) will support the development and testing of a novel vaccine against Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae, a bacterium that infects sheep and causes respiratory disease. The project aims to design a vaccine that incorporates biofilm components to induce a strong immune response in the respiratory tract and prevent or clear M....
- This $313,718.39 federal Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Program aims to model the transmission and disease burden of Equine Hepacivirus (EQHV) in horse populations. The University of Pennsylvania, the awardee, will monitor EQHV infection in horse herds over 4 years, characterize the clinical condition of chronic EQHV hepatitis, and identify risk...
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded a $300,000 grant under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program to Oklahoma State University (OSU) to develop a novel single-cycle vaccine against bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). The project aims to pioneer the development of two single-cycle BRSV vaccine prototypes: an 'MNull' vaccine that lacks the essential matrix protein, and a 'PRef' vaccine with a modified fusion protein. OSU will evaluate the immunogenicity...
- The Texas A&M Agrilife Research received a $645,000 project grant award from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) federal grant program (CFDA #10.310). The grant will fund research from May 1, 2023 through April 30, 2026 to identify genetic variants associated with disorders of sex development in horses. Texas A&M Agrilife Research will conduct whole genome analysis and hormonal...
- This $627,000 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture's Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program (CFDA 10.310) will fund research at the University of Illinois from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2026. The research aims to identify early gene and protein expression changes after equine joint injuries to further understanding of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) development. Twelve horses will undergo controlled fetlock chip...
- This $174,699 project grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. The grant was awarded to Thyreos Inc., a biotechnology and vaccine development company, to develop an integrated vaccine that provides broad protection against the three major viral contributors to Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) in cattle. Specifically, the project aims to engineer a single...
- The Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded a $299,941 Project Grant to Texas A&M Agrilife Research under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative competitive grants program. The grant will fund research from March 2022 to February 2025 to evaluate the timing of bovine viral diarrhea virus and bovine herpesvirus vaccinations in cattle herds. The research aims to determine the optimal interval between vaccination and the start of breeding seasons...
This $610,000 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grants program will support research at Texas A&M Agrilife Research to develop an mRNA-based approach to prevent pneumonia in foals caused by Rhodococcus equi. The objectives are to demonstrate in-vitro that mRNA-encoded antibodies can recognize and kill R. equi bacteria, optimize dosing and formulation of the mRNA for delivery via aerosol to foal lungs, show foals can produce antibodies in their lungs to recognize and kill R. equi after aerosolized mRNA administration, and prove the mRNA approach can prevent foals from developing R. equi pneumonia. If successful, the mRNA-based technique could provide a more effective and safer way to protect foals against this economically significant respiratory disease of horses. It may also have applications for protecting other agricultural animal species against respiratory infections. The performance period is from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2026.
