Kentucky State University will use a $500,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture to offer scholarships for students pursuing degrees in agriculture-related fields through July 2026. The grant funding supports the Scholarships for Students at 1890 Institutions program (CFDA 10.524), which aims to provide scholarships at each of the 1890 Land-Grant Institutions to increase the number of graduates in food and agricultural sciences and related fields. Under the award, KSU will recruit and select students for competitive scholarships to study plant and animal science, human health and the environment, global agricultural perspectives, and related practicums. Scholars will participate in internships, professional development activities, and be mentored by faculty. An advisory committee and evaluation plan will track scholars' progress, retention, graduation, and subsequent careers in agriculture. The program aims to meet workforce needs through preparing more students for careers in food and agricultural systems.
