The University of Minnesota was awarded a $241,000 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Higher Education National Needs Graduate Fellowship Grants program (CFDA 10.210). The grant will support the establishment of a Tribal Natural Resources graduate program track and increase the enrollment and graduation of Black, Indigenous, and other students of color in the University's Natural Resources Science and Management graduate program from July 2021 through June 2025. Specifically, the grant will provide integrated graduate training for two Master's and two doctoral students focused on forest resources with an emphasis on conservation and renewable natural resources. The program aims to build tribal expertise and capacity in natural resources disciplines by training the next generation of researchers and managers to address climate change, ecological disturbances, and natural resource challenges across diverse land ownerships and disciplines in an integrated, collaborative manner.
