The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration awarded $1.137752 million to Caritas of Austin on October 1, 2025, under the VA Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (CFDA 64.033), a Project Grant with performance through September 30, 2026, in Texas.
Caritas of Austin will deliver supportive services to very low-income veteran families residing in permanent housing, experiencing homelessness and scheduled to transition to permanent housing, or seeking housing after exiting permanent housing. Required services include outreach, case management, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, and assistance in obtaining and coordinating other public benefits. The recipient may also provide temporary financial assistance paid directly to third parties on behalf of participants for child care, emergency housing assistance, transportation, rental assistance, utility and security deposit payment assistance, moving costs, and general housing stability assistance including emergency supplies. Optional additional services include legal assistance and financial management services.
The SSVF program focuses on rapidly rehousing veterans experiencing literal homelessness and preventing veteran homelessness through a combination of rapid rehousing and homelessness prevention services delivered without preconditions, while facilitating access to health care, employment, legal services, and other supports to sustain permanent housing and improve quality of life.
