The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded a $644,834 Formula Grant to the Louisiana Commission On Law Enforcement And Administration Of Criminal Justice on October 1, 2017 for the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners (RSAT) program. The grant is to be completed by September 30, 2021.
Under the award, substance abuse treatment and support services will be provided through four sub-awards. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections will deliver RSAT programming at the Louisiana State Penitentiary to assist offenders nearing release. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office will implement an intensive substance abuse education program. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections will continue RSAT programming at the Bossier Parish Sheriff's facility. Finally, the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office will operate a 24/7 residential substance abuse treatment program at the local correctional facility. The goal is to enhance access to evidence-based substance use disorder treatment and reduce recidivism.
