The National Institute of Justice awarded a $0.00 Project Grant to The Leland Stanford Junior University from January 2018 through December 2020 under the National Institute of Justice Research, Evaluation, and Development Project Grants program (CFDA 16.560).
The grant funded the development of a confirmatory test for sperm in sexual assault samples using a microfluidic-integrated cell phone imaging system. Work included designing a chip to support ease of use, performance and manufacturability for analysis via standard microscope or integrated cell phone. The sub-awardee, Dxnow Inc., received funding to develop a first generation system using a bench-top microscope and a second generation system using a cell phone integrated imaging system. Performance criteria for both generations included sensitivity, precision, accuracy, reproducibility and stability.
