The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded a $1,728,723 Project Grant to the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission for Oregon's Maximizing Justice Reinvestment Project from October 1, 2016 to March 31, 2021. The goal of the Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) federal grant program (CFDA 16.827) is to help states identify and respond to crime and other public safety problems through evidence-based strategies and cost-saving investments. Under this award, the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission will work to implement justice reinvestment strategies aimed at reducing recidivism and corrections spending in the state. Key services will include analyzing criminal justice data, identifying areas for reform, and reinvesting savings in strategies to reduce recidivism and increase public safety.
