The Economic Development Administration awarded a $1.825 million Project Grant to the Bowie Economic Development Corporation under the Economic Adjustment Assistance program on September 16, 2021. Funding will support infrastructure improvements to the Bowie Business Park and construction of a 10,000 square foot speculative building. The project aims to help the City of Bowie rebound from economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and an F-1 tornado in May 2020. It is expected to create 8 new jobs and generate $800,000 in private investment. Further business park development unlocked by this investment could attract additional jobs and private capital. Regional planning by the North Texas Regional Planning Commission helped make the project possible by bringing together public and private stakeholders to strengthen the regional economy through capital investment and job creation.
