The Economic Development Administration awarded a $849,185 project grant under the Economic Adjustment Assistance program to support construction of a green building in Ekwok, Alaska. The facility will store disaster response supplies, recyclable materials, and regulated materials. It will also serve as a training space for waste management representatives from surrounding communities. The remote location of Ekwok and lack of road connections make the city difficult to access, especially during winter months. The storage facility and covered space for accumulating recyclables and hazardous waste prior to shipping will help the city and region better manage waste and emergency supplies. The Native Village of Ekwok, through the Ekwok Village Council, is the sub-awardee and will oversee delivery of these products and services.
