The Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe a $3.676 million project grant under the Economic Adjustment Assistance (CFDA 11.307) program. The grant will support the Tribe in addressing local and regional needs for access to healthy food, economic diversification, and development of core infrastructure in Lower Brule, South Dakota. Specifically, grant funds will be used to establish a grocery store that will create new workforce opportunities and enhance quality of life by increasing access to affordable, quality food. This in turn will improve nutrition and contribute to healthy lifestyle choices. Once completed, the grocery store is expected to bolster job creation and advance economic resiliency within an Opportunity Zone that has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The period of performance for this award is from September 7, 2022 through September 7, 2026.
