The City of Springfield, Missouri received a $3.07 million project grant award from the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) under the Economic Adjustment Assistance (CFDA 11.307) federal grant program on August 23, 2022. The funding will support infrastructure improvements along Le Compte Avenue and Division Street to reconstruct and widen the roads as well as make turning lane additions. These upgrades will enhance truck traffic capacity and serve key logistical needs for the area by providing efficient access for businesses in the Springfield Underground warehousing and logistics hub. The project aims to boost economic resiliency and support recovery from impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling economic diversification for the greater Springfield region. It will also attract private investment and job growth to benefit the local economy impacted by a major coal plant closure.
