The State of Idaho Department of Environmental Quality received a $208,842 Project Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 under the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Prevention, Detection, and Compliance Program (CFDA 66.804) for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. This funding supports Idaho's Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Prevention Program, which focuses on leak detection, prevention, and enforcement activities to protect the environment from petroleum and hazardous substance releases. The grant enables the state to conduct approximately 400 full compliance UST inspections, manage oversight of regulated underground storage tanks, and implement enforcement actions against non-compliant facility operators.
The funded activities encompass comprehensive UST program management including facility inspections and compliance monitoring, operator training initiatives, secondary containment support, delivery prohibition enforcement, and public reporting requirements. The State of Idaho will also track prevention activities and report performance metrics to EPA, including technical compliance rates and overall program performance. No sub-awards are included in this assistance agreement. These deliverables support the state's broader objective to develop an independent UST program capable of operating in lieu of federal oversight while ensuring owners and operators properly maintain their underground storage tanks in accordance with federal regulations.
