The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $19,953,400 grant under the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616) to the Lucky Shoals Community Association (LSCA), a non-profit organization and community development corporation in Norcross, Georgia. The funding will be used to acquire land and create a green campus and community resilience hub.
The project activities include: 1) acquiring and rehabilitating land to establish a park/greenspace administered through a local land trust, 2) developing a community resilience hub on the land to provide emergency training and services, as well as administer clean energy and environmental programs for low-income residents, and 3) creating a central site for local workforce training in clean energy and environmental work. The project also involves subawards to implement workforce development training, energy efficiency retrofits, indoor air quality remediation, water assessment/remediation, and community engagement activities. Key outcomes include constructing the green campus, training workers, and weatherizing homes in a federally designated disadvantaged community.
