This Project Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616) provides $2,987,385 to the Global Center for Cultural Entrepreneurship for a 3-year collaborative project with partner organizations to engage residents of the Eight Northern Pueblos (ENP) in New Mexico on climate and environmental justice issues.
The key activities include hosting over 40 climate justice and community engagement workshops and events reaching 840 ENP residents, publishing 3 annual climate justice reports and recommendations, launching a Climate Justice Leadership Development Program to train 30 young adults, and establishing 3 climate justice agreements between tribal, state, county, and climate justice organizations. The subrecipients Amigos Bravos, Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council, Indigenous Design and Planning Institute, and Northern New Mexico College will focus on community outreach, tribal engagement, data measurement, and youth training, respectively. The overall goal is to reduce systemic barriers and empower ENP communities to participate in climate and environmental decision-making processes.
