This $6,570,000 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) National Grants program (CFDA 66.039) will fund the replacement of twenty-two (22) class 7 and 8 diesel transport tractors operated by Fort Bend County, Texas with a fleet of new, fully battery-electric Tesla semi-trucks. This initiative will be implemented in partnership with Frito-Lay's Rosenberg, Texas distribution center. The project is expected to result in significant annual reductions of nitrogen oxides (8.396 short tons), particulate matter (0.013 short tons), and carbon dioxide (4,178.8 short tons) emissions in the Houston metropolitan area, benefiting historically disadvantaged and disproportionately impacted communities. Additionally, the grant will provide training for approximately 6 mechanics and all commercial driver's license holders on the operation, charging, and maintenance of the new electric vehicles, as well as facilitate 4 community listening sessions to engage local stakeholders.
