This $3.17 million Project Grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) supports Big Rock in installing a new fixed-grip chairlift and upgrading snowmaking capabilities at its ski area in Mars Hill, Maine. Funded through EDA's Economic Adjustment Assistance (CFDA 11.307) program, which provides infrastructure and public works assistance to regions facing adverse economic changes, the project will help the region become more resilient to tourism fluctuations and support the recovery of jobs and private investment in the outdoor recreation and tourism industry. Specifically, grant funds will be used for earthwork, concrete, and equipment needed to construct the new chairlift's base and top terminals, towers, and operator houses. Additional snow producers, piping, and electrical infrastructure will also be installed through the award to expand Big Rock's snowmaking coverage and capacity, allowing it to extend its ski season.
