The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (MDEGLE) has been awarded a $8,305,187 Project Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program (CFDA 66.049) established by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The award will fund the replacement of 15 existing internal combustion engine Class 7 vehicles (e.g. recycling trucks) with zero-emission battery electric vehicles, along with the installation of 15 DC fast charging units and workforce training to support the new zero-emission fleet. The key activities and deliverables include reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality and public health benefits in the targeted counties of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne in Michigan. MDEGLE will serve as the primary recipient and will sub-award funds through a competitive grant program to eligible sub-recipients for the vehicle and charging infrastructure replacement project. The project period extends from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026.
