The City of Evansville has been awarded a $20,000,000 Project Grant by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616). The funding will support the "Moving Evansville Towards a Healthier Future" initiative, which consists of four integrated projects designed to address challenges related to poor air quality, lack of clean transportation options, and climate change impacts affecting community health and resilience.
Key activities include: 1) Establishing 15 multimodal "Mobility Hubs" with electric bikeshare and sidewalk improvements to encourage adoption of low/zero-emission transportation; 2) Expanding the city's electric microtransit program and retrofitting transit facilities with solar power; 3) Promoting personal electric vehicle adoption and awareness of clean transportation options; and 4) Implementing strategies to simultaneously reduce air pollution, improve outdoor air quality, and enhance public health and climate resilience in underserved communities. The grant will be implemented over a 3-year period from March 2025 to March 2028.
