The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 awarded $489,187 to the New Mexico Environment Department under the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Prevention, Detection, and Compliance Program (CFDA 66.804) for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. This non-competitive allocation supports the State of New Mexico's LUST (Leaking Underground Storage Tank) prevention program, which encompasses leak detection, prevention, and enforcement activities designed to ensure proper operation and maintenance of underground storage tanks statewide.
The funded activities include facility inspections conducted at least once every three years in compliance with EPA guidelines, implementation and enforcement of state UST regulations, operator training programs, secondary containment support to protect groundwater, delivery prohibition activities, and public reporting and record-keeping requirements. Additionally, the award supports administrative and staff management necessary to maintain comprehensive LUST prevention regulatory oversight and to implement requirements under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement, with all deliverables and program implementation activities managed directly by NMED.
