The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded Disability Rights Louisiana $632,033 in formula grant funding on October 1, 2025, under the Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness program (CFDA 93.138).
Disability Rights Louisiana delivers protection and advocacy services for adults with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbances across Louisiana. The organization pursues administrative, legal, and other remedies to address complaints of abuse, neglect, and rights violations; provides legal representation; conducts investigations; and ensures enforcement of constitutional, federal, and state statutes protecting this population. Service priority covers individuals at risk for abuse, neglect, or civil rights violations while residing in care or treatment facilities, as well as individuals in the community, including those in the process of admission to facilities, in transport to facilities, or involuntarily confined in municipal detention facilities, jails, or prisons.
The award carries a period of performance from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027, with place of performance in New Orleans, Louisiana. The funding is obligated as a 24-month allotment and represents one component of Disability Rights Louisiana's broader portfolio of protection and advocacy programs funded through federal formula grants, including separate grants for developmental disabilities, assistive technology, traumatic brain injury, and voting access.
