The Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded the Maine Department of Education a $6,659,535 Formula Grant under the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Program (CFDA 84.424) to improve academic achievement by increasing the capacity of states, local educational agencies, schools, and communities to provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for student learning, and enhance the use of technology. Through this grant, the Maine Department of Education has provided sub-awards to over 30 local school districts, municipalities, and non-profit organizations in Maine to deliver a range of education-related services. These services include purchasing local foods for distribution to schools, providing free fresh fruits and vegetables, improving teaching quality, increasing access to well-rounded education and technology, assisting high-poverty schools, delivering special education services, and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal grant sub-awards aim to ultimately enhance education outcomes for students across Maine.
