The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) was awarded a $1,376,178 Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education under the English Language Acquisition State Grants program (CFDA 84.365). The grant period runs from July 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
The funding supports DEED's efforts to help ensure that English learners, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency and meet the same challenging state academic standards expected of all Alaskan students. As the designated state education agency, DEED will use the formula grant funds to deliver English language instruction and support services through local education programs during the grant period.
