PROGRAM: ABANDONED MINED LANDS (AML) PROGRAM (TITLE IV)AWARD PURPOSE: THE SURFACE MINING CONTROL AND RECLAMATION ACT OF 1977 (SMCRA), P.L 95-87, AS AMENDED, CREATED THE OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING RECLAMATION AND ENFORCEMENT (OSMRE) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR. SMCRA PROVIDES THE OSMRE THE AUTHORITY TO PROVIDE FEDERAL FUNDING AND TO OVERSEE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STATE REGULATORY (TITLE V) AND ABANDONED MINED LANDS (AML) PROGRAMS (TITLE IV) APPROVED BY THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR AS MEETING THE MINIMUM STANDARDS SPECIFIED BY SMCRA.ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: THIS GRANT FUNDS THE AML RECLAMATION ACTIVITIES OF THE APPROVED RECLAMATION PLAN OF ILLINOIS AS DESCRIBED IN 30 CFR, SUBCHAPTER T - PROGRAMS FOR THE CONDUCT OF SURFACE MINING OPERATIONS WITHIN EACH STATE.
