The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded a $491,747 Formula Grant to the Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) under the Education for Homeless Children and Youth (CFDA 84.196) program. This grant will fund services to ensure homeless children and youth in Hawaii have equal access to free, appropriate public education. Key services to be provided include transportation assistance, academic support, and professional development for educators, all aimed at identifying, enrolling, and supporting homeless students to minimize educational disruption and promote academic success. HIDOE, as the state education agency, will distribute sub-awards to local school districts, community organizations, and educational service centers to implement these direct services for homeless students across the state. The grant has a performance period from July 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.
