The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a $432,184 Formula Grant to the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (RI DESE) to support the Education for Homeless Children and Youth program (CFDA 84.196). This funding will be used by RI DESE to ensure that all homeless children and youth in Rhode Island have equal access to a free, appropriate public education. Through sub-awards, RI DESE will distribute these grant funds to local education agencies, schools, and community organizations to facilitate direct instruction, student support services, and other efforts to improve educational outcomes for homeless students across the state. The grant period runs from July 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.
