The North Carolina Department of Transportation's Integrated Mobility Division was awarded a $4,825,776 Formula Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Metropolitan Transportation Planning and State and Non-Metropolitan Planning and Research program (CFDA 20.505). The grant will provide one year of funding for planning initiatives across North Carolina's Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). Key activities to be performed include developing Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs), Statewide Transportation Improvement Programs (STIPs), Unified Planning Work Programs (UPWPs), transit studies, long-range plan updates, coordinated human service plans, and other planning efforts. The funding will ensure the MPOs and NCDOT meet applicable planning requirements and appropriately program future transit projects into local documents. All MPOs across the state will utilize this $2,922,052 in Section 5303 and 5304 formula grant funding to plan for better, more connected transit services. The award was granted on June 26, 2025 with a final completion date of March 30, 2032.
