The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services received a $470,531 Formula Grant award from the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services to provide independent living services to older individuals who are blind through September 30, 2023. The grant funding will support the Rehabilitation Services Independent Living Services for Older Individuals Who are Blind federal program (CFDA #84.177), with the goal of improving and expanding services to help older blind individuals achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life. As the designated state agency, Alabama DRS will deliver any independent living services outlined in the program regulations, such as community integration skills, advocacy, and peer support. The sub-awardee, Alabama Department of Public Health, will assist in service delivery through the conclusion of this award period on September 30, 2023.
