The Special Education Preschool Grants program (CFDA 84.173), administered by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, awarded a $7,111,602 formula grant to the Louisiana Department of Administration to support comprehensive special education and related services for children with disabilities aged 3 through 5 years in Louisiana. This funding enables the state to provide specialized instruction, speech/language therapy, occupational/physical therapy, assistive technology, and individualized support services to prepare young children with disabilities for successful transitions into kindergarten. As the prime grantee, the Louisiana Department of Administration has distributed numerous sub-awards to local school districts, intermediate educational units, charter schools, and other regional educational organizations throughout Louisiana to deliver these critical early childhood special education programs and services. For example, Franklin Parish School District, Concordia Parish School Board, and Orleans Parish School District have each received sub-awards of over $2 million to implement IDEA Preschool 619 initiatives in their respective communities.
