The Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration awarded a $36,082,817 Formula Grant to the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) under the Formula Grants for Rural Areas and Tribal Transit Program (CFDA 20.509). The grant provides capital planning and operating assistance to FDOT to support public transportation in rural areas of Florida with populations under 50,000. Key grant activities include planning, capital projects, operating assistance, job access and reverse commute initiatives, acquisition of public transportation services, as well as training and technical assistance through the Rural Transportation Assistance Program (RTAP). FDOT will sub-award portions of the grant funding to state/local government authorities, nonprofit organizations, and public transportation/intercity bus operators across Florida to deliver these transportation services to rural communities.
