The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) was awarded a $1,248,470 Formula Grant under the U.S. Department of Energy's State Energy Program (CFDA 81.041) with a performance period from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026. The grant funding will be used to accomplish three primary objectives:
-
Provide technical training and rebate program administrative orientation to encourage and enable participation in existing trade businesses.
-
Develop curriculum and testing/certification for a skilled residential energy workforce to support rebate-related work.
-
Support community-based, pre-apprenticeship programs to bring low-income and underserved populations into the residential energy conservation workforce pipeline.
The grant will allow DEQ to engage 220-300 new and existing workers, as well as 20 contractor firms, with a focus on energy auditor and residential retrofit installer occupations. DEQ plans to leverage existing apprenticeship programs at the state Department of Labor to implement the workforce development activities.
