The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) was awarded a $2,020,000 Formula Grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (CFDA 20.507 Federal Transit Formula Grants) on April 9, 2024. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for a design-build project to stabilize the track at Mile Post 206.8 and ensure the continuation of efficient and dependable Metrolink and Amtrak passenger rail and freight rail service in Orange County, California. The grant will support activities to mitigate environmental harm from future slope failure in the project area. This funding is expected to ensure the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 202,533 metric tons of CO2 equivalents over 20 years through Metrolink ridership. The intended beneficiaries of this grant are the patrons who utilize Metrolink and Amtrak passenger rail service, as well as residents of Orange County who will benefit from improved air quality.
