The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $5,925,600 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (CFDA 66.468) Formula Grant to the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) on September 15, 2023. The grant will capitalize DANR's DWSRF to provide low-interest financing for planning, designing, and constructing eligible drinking water infrastructure projects across the state. Key activities under the grant include improving drinking water treatment, fixing water distribution systems, enhancing water supply sources, replacing or building new finished water storage, and other infrastructure upgrades to protect public health. DANR may also use funding for technical assistance to small water systems, program administration, and other allowable uses. As a sub-recipient, the Mid-Dakota Rural Water System will update its system with new advanced metering infrastructure, pipe paralleling, a backwash recovery system, and additional membrane capacity using grant funds.
