The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 awarded the New York State Department of Health a $3.16 million formula grant under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Small and Underserved Communities Emerging Contaminants Grant Program (CFDA #66.442) on September 1, 2021. The grant will fund drinking water program assistance through August 31, 2024 to underserved, small, and disadvantaged communities in New York State. Activities include projects and activities needed for public water systems to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act, household water quality testing programs, and state response capabilities for drinking water contaminants. Specifically, the funds will support infrastructure improvements, replacement of water transmission and distribution mains to reduce water loss, and upgrades to treatment and distribution system components associated with pumping and storage facilities. One $250,000 sub-award was provided to the Town of Pamelia for improvements to Consolidated Water District No. 1's existing water system and extension of municipal water to currently unserved portions of the town, helping to bring the system into compliance with EPA and state health standards.
