The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 awarded a $8,689,000 Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) capitalization grant to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The purpose of this Formula Grant is to provide low-interest financing to numerous subrecipients for eligible costs under the Clean Water Act, with a primary focus on addressing emerging contaminants. Emerging contaminants refer to substances or microorganisms that may pose newly identified risks to human health, aquatic life, or the environment, including compounds from personal care products, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, pesticides, and microplastics. The grant will enable the state to establish and manage an effective CWSRF program and maintain a self-sustaining revolving fund to improve and protect water quality and public health throughout New Jersey.
