The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 awarded a $19.7 million Formula Grant to the Delaware Division of Public Health within the Delaware Executive Office of the Governor on July 1, 2022 through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program (CFDA #66.468). The grant capitalizes Delaware's DWSRF to provide low-interest financing through June 30, 2029 for drinking water infrastructure projects that protect public health. Eligible projects include improving treatment, replacing pipes, upgrading water sources, and constructing storage tanks. The state may also use some funding for technical assistance, administration, and management. Four sub-awards were provided to the Cities of Wilmington and Dover and Tidewater Utilities Inc. to upgrade electrical equipment, mitigate a leaking clearwell, install new distribution mains, and replace aging pipes. The grant will increase technical, financial, and managerial capacity of water systems and provide a safer drinking water supply through multiple infrastructure improvements statewide.
