The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was awarded a $3,905,860.49 Formula Grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the National Priority Safety Programs. The grant funding will support the state's alcohol-impaired driving countermeasures consistent with 23 C.F.R. § 1300.23(j) from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2026.
Specifically, the DMV will use the grant funds to address impaired driving as one of the national highway safety priorities identified under the National Priority Safety Programs federal grant program (CFDA #20.616). This may include efforts such as occupant protection initiatives and improvements to the state's traffic safety information system to help reduce impaired driving incidents over the four-year period.
