The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service awarded the Utah State Board of Education $3,481,072 in formula grant funding on October 1, 2025, under the State Administrative Expenses for Child Nutrition program (CFDA 10.560) to reimburse Child Nutrition Program meal expenses.
The award funds administrative expenses for supervising and providing technical assistance to local schools, school districts, and institutions in their conduct of Child Nutrition Programs throughout Utah. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.
The State Administrative Expenses allocation to Utah is calculated annually as one percent of funds expended by the state in the second preceding fiscal year under the National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act, with adjusted percentages for the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Release of funds is contingent upon FNS approval of the state agency's SAE plan, and the Utah State Board of Education must maintain records on administrative expenses conforming with the approved plan and current accounting records identifying fund authorizations, obligations, unobligated balances, assets, liabilities, outlays, and income. The state agency may carry over up to twenty percent of allocated SAE funds for obligation and expenditure during the succeeding fiscal year and is required to undergo a single audit annually.
