The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living awarded $188,180 to Disability Rights Rhode Island on October 1, 2025, under the Voting Access for Individuals with Disabilities–Grants for Protection and Advocacy Systems program (CFDA 93.618).
Disability Rights Rhode Island will provide education, training, and assistance to individuals with disabilities to promote their full participation in the electoral process, including voter registration assistance and election access guidance. The organization will deliver training and education to election officials, poll workers, and election volunteers regarding the rights of voters with disabilities and best practices in working with individuals with disabilities. The recipient will assist individuals with disabilities in filing complaints under state-based administrative grievance procedures related to voting access and represent individuals with disabilities in hearings regarding such complaints. Disability Rights Rhode Island will also provide assistance to states and governmental entities regarding the physical accessibility of polling places and obtain and disseminate training and technical assistance on voting issues, including education regarding accessible voting equipment and systems.
The award covers the period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030, with performance taking place in Rhode Island. Disability Rights Rhode Island is Rhode Island's designated Protection and Advocacy System and delivers all services directly without identified subcontractors.
