The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration awarded a $10,377,333 WIOA Adult Formula Grant to the South Carolina Department of Employment & Workforce (DEW). The purpose of this grant is to provide comprehensive workforce development services to adults across South Carolina, including career services, job training, and supportive assistance to help individuals obtain employment, advance in their careers, and meet employer workforce needs.
DEW sub-awards portions of the WIOA Adult grant funds to 12 local workforce development areas throughout the state, which include regional councils of governments, county agencies, and other local partners. These sub-grantees deliver individualized career services, training programs, and supportive services such as transportation and childcare assistance directly to eligible adults and businesses in their local communities. The grant funds these activities through the American Job Center network, also known as one-stop career centers, across South Carolina.
