The District of Columbia Government will receive $224,392 under a Formula Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. The funding supports the WIC Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2025.
As outlined in the WIC program (CFDA 10.557), the grant funds will provide breastfeeding peer counseling services to low-income pregnant and postpartum women participating in WIC. Peer counselors will offer nutrition education and support to encourage breastfeeding among WIC participants. The funding will also allow referrals to other health and social services for nutritional needs. This award aims to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations by promoting breastfeeding through dedicated peer counseling services.
