The California Department of Public Health received a $2.6 million Formula Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service under the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) to provide fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs to women, infants and children in California. The grant period runs from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022. As one of the stated purposes of the FMNP is to provide fresh produce from local farmers, farmers' markets and roadside stands to WIC participants, this funding will presumably support the purchase of such locally sourced foods to distribute to Californians in need through the existing WIC program infrastructure.
