DESCRIPTION:THIS ACTION APPROVES FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $168,775 TO ASSIST THE KENTUCKY ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT CABINET TO SUPPORT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS TO RESTORE WATERBODIES AND WATERSHEDS TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN CLEAN SAFE WATER FOR ALL COMMUNITIES. THIS AGREEMENT PROVIDES FUNDING TO KENTUCKY TO CARRY OUT ITS PROGRAM TO MAINTAIN, PROTECT, AND IMPROVE THE WATER QUALITY OF ITS RIVERS, LAKES, STREAMS, GROUNDWATER, AND OTHER WATERBODIES. THE ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF THIS PROGRAM INCLUDE PREVENTING DEGRADATION OF UNIMPAIRED WATERBODIES AND REDUCING THE NUMBER OF IMPAIRED WATERBODIES IN THE STATE.ACTIVITIES:ACTIVITIES INCLUDE, EXPANDING WETLANDS MONITORING PROGRAM TO INCLUDE HIGH-QUALITY, REFERENCE WATERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH, INCREASING CAPACITY FOR WATER QUALITY MONITORING AND BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS ACROSS CLEAN WATER ACT PROGRAMS, IMPROVING DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING: KENTUCKY ASSESSMENTS TMDL TRACKING SYSTEM AND KENTUCKY WATER ASSESSMENT DATA FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING. SUBRECIPIENT:FUNDS WILL ALSO PROVIDE FOR ADDITIONAL IT DATABASE SUPPORT TO ENHANCE THE KENTUCKY ASSESSMENT DATA FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING (K-WADE) AND KENTUCKY ASSESSMENT AND TMDL TRACKING SYSTEM (KATTS) BY IMPLEMENTING IMPROVED DATA ENTRY MODES TO INCLUDE BATCH UPLOAD TOOLS AND FEATURES TO SUPPORT CORRECTIONS TO HISTORICAL DATA, IMPROVE AND ENHANCE MANAGEMENT OF GEOSPATIAL DATA RELATED TO WATERBODIES, ASSESSMENT UNITS, WATERSHED DRAINAGE AREAS, AND MONITORING LOCATIONS, AND INITIATE WORK ON NEW MODULES TO MANAGE HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOM INFORMATION, WATERBODY SPECIAL DESIGNATED USES, AND WETLANDS MONITORING DATA.OUTCOMES:THE ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDED ARE SAMPLING ACTIVITIES IN APPROXIMATELY 10 WETLAND REFERENCE SITES IN THE BLUEGRASS AND MOUNTAIN BIOREGIONS YIELDING, INDEX BASED RESULTS FROM APPROXIMATELY 10 AVIAN SURVEYS AND PLANT COMMUNITY VEGETATION SURVEYS; 10 ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENTS, 60 ROUTINE WATER CHEMISTRY SAMPLES PAIRED WITH WITH IN SITU FIELD MEASUREMENTS AND OBSERVATIONS, DEVELOPMENT OF DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING WORKFLOWS AND TOOLS IN MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT DATABASES THROUGH IMPROVED AND ENHANCED MANAGEMENT OF GEOSPATIAL DATA RELATED TO WATERBODIES WITH PLANS AND SPECIAL WATERS, DEVELOPMENT LIFE-CYCLE INITIATION FOR NEW MODULES DESIGNED TO TRACK AND MANAGE BIOLOGICAL AND REGULATORY DATA ON SPECIAL WATERS, WATERSHED ACTION PLAN DEVELOPMENT, AND WETLANDS BIOLOGICAL MONITORING DATA. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF A MONITORING STRATEGY FOR WETLANDS THAT INCLUDES EVALUATION OF WATER CHEMISTRY RESULTS AGAINST EXISTING WATER STANDARDS. ADDITIONAL WATER QUALITY MONITORING AND ASSESSMENTS AND IMPROVE STORAGE OF GEOSPATIAL DATA. THE DIRECT BENEFICIARIES OF THE AGREEMENT ARE THE RESIDENTS OF THE KENTUCKY.
