The Environmental Protection Agency Region 6 awarded the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma $118,563 on October 1, 2025, under the Water Pollution Control State, Interstate, and Tribal Program Support formula grant program (CFDA 66.419) to maintain, protect, and improve water quality across the Pawnee Nation's rivers, lakes, streams, groundwater, and other waterbodies. The recipient will implement the Pawnee Nation Water Quality Standard throughout the performance period, including updates to the quality assurance project plan and data quality objectives to ensure adequate protection of water resources under its Clean Water Act Section 303 authorization. The Pawnee Nation will coordinate with tribal leadership and regulatory commissions to issue, deny, modify, or waive Section 401 certifications and implement the Pawnee Nation Water Resource Protection Act to protect tribal water resources. The recipient will participate in training on stormwater permitting, compliance monitoring, and tribal leaders meetings, and provide technical support to other tribal governments developing tribal water quality standards and implementing regulations. The Pawnee Nation will conduct continuous monitoring of dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, conductivity, flow, and turbidity across 21 major waterbodies at minimum once annually and upload monitoring data to the EPA STORET/WQX database. The recipient will also participate in pollution prevention through education, outreach, compliance assistance, inspections, and enforcement activities. Performance occurs in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
