This $564,000 formula grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 supports the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Small and Underserved Communities Emerging Contaminants Grant Program (CFDA #66.442). The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will replace Well #7 for the Augusta Waterworks system, which is contaminated with nitrates. Work will include installing a new well, pumphouse, piping, treatment systems, connections to the distribution system, and a backup generator. The subawardee, State of Wisconsin Governor's Office, will oversee construction by the lowest bidder to deliver potable water in compliance with drinking water standards. Successful completion of this project by September 2024 will provide the Augusta Waterworks customers with safe drinking water through a new, compliant well source.
