The Virginia Department of Health received a $3.1 million Formula Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency under the State Public Water System Supervision federal grant program (CFDA 66.432) to support implementation and enforcement of the Public Water System Supervision Program through July 2022. Key activities to be funded include developing and maintaining state drinking water regulations no less stringent than federal standards; maintaining an inventory of public water systems; implementing an enforcement program and laboratory certification; ensuring consumer notification; conducting inspections and reviews; providing technical assistance; and conducting emerging contaminants research and recommendations. The grant will allow Virginia to perform primary oversight responsibilities for public water systems statewide and ensure residents have access to safe drinking water. Semi-annual reporting to EPA on compliance, enforcement and water system data is also required.
