- This federal Project Grant award, provided by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121), will fund a $161,644 multifaceted investigation into speech outcomes following maxillary advancement surgery for individuals with cleft palate. The 5-year study, beginning on July 1, 2025, aims to: 1) investigate anatomical risk factors for post-operative velopharyngeal insufficiency, 2) quantify the relationship...
- The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) awarded a $1,281,274 Project Grant under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) to Seattle Children's Hospital, doing business as Seattle Children's Research Institute. The grant, titled "Leveraging Advances in Practices and Outcomes in Cleft Care: The LEAP Study", aims to create an inclusive global collaborative to develop a cleft-focused learning health system. The project will focus on the...
- This federal Project Grant award of $147,486.00, provided by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) under the CFDA program "Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders", supports a mixed-methods research study focused on developing culturally responsive caregiver-implemented early language interventions for Latino children in Puerto Rico. The key objectives are to characterize the use of naturalistic language facilitation strategies by...
- The federal Project Grant award of $439,916 from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), under the Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders (CFDA 93.173) program, is focused on "Breaking Barriers: Harnessing Implementation Mapping to Promote Caregiver Coaching in Early Intervention." The project aims to develop and test implementation strategies that address barriers to the widespread use of caregiver coaching in early...
- The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) awarded a $320,000 Project Grant under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) to Marshfield Clinic, Inc. The project aims to identify genomic regulatory elements involved in the development of oral clefts, a common birth defect. Specifically, the research will 1) identify enhancers that drive gene expression in human embryonic palatal mesenchyme cells, 2) determine which enhancers regulate transcription...
- The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) awarded a $743,412 Project Grant (CFDA 93.173 - Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders) to the University of Oregon. The goal of this 5-year project is to evaluate the comparative effectiveness and implementation outcomes of different parent-implemented naturalistic communication intervention (PI-NCI) modalities for improving parent responsivity and child communication/language outcomes among...
- This Project Grant award of $431,750.00 was provided by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) under the federal grant program "Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders" (CFDA 93.173). The goal of the project is to investigate the connection between building early vocabulary structure and subsequent language growth in toddlers, including those identified as "late-talkers" who are at risk for persistent language...
- The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121), awarded a $511,706 Project Grant to the University of Florida for a 3-year study to determine whether frequent standardized oral care using human milk reduces oral/intestinal inflammation and microbial dysbiosis, leading to improved neonatal outcomes and reduced cost of care in preterm very low birth weight infants. The study aims to evaluate the effect of...
- This Project Grant award of $415,717.00 from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) under the Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders (CFDA 93.173) federal grant program supports research to develop tools for assessing receptive language and learning abilities in children with cerebral palsy and severe speech and motor impairments. The goal is to enable better matching of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) system language...
- This $448,525 Project Grant award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the Trans-NIH Research Support program (CFDA 93.310) will fund a mixed-methods study by Father Flanagan's Boys' Home to examine caregivers' and pediatricians' decision-making processes related to late talking in children. The project aims to address key barriers in this domain, including understanding the information needs of caregivers and pediatricians, and how social determinants of health impact knowledge...
The Cooperative Agreement award of $336,748.00 from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.121) aims to develop and test a caregiver-implemented early speech and language intervention model for toddlers with non-syndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P). The project will evaluate the effectiveness of the Caregiver-Implemented Enhanced Milieu Teaching with Phonological Emphasis (EMT+PE) intervention delivered via telehealth in improving speech and language outcomes for these children. The 2-year study will enroll 102 participants and compare the intervention group to a control condition. The key products or services to be delivered include: 1) preparing for implementation of the multisite clinical trial, 2) examining the effects of caregiver coaching on caregiver use of EMT+PE strategies, 3) evaluating the impact of caregiver-implemented EMT+PE on children's speech and language outcomes, and 4) assessing the feasibility, acceptability, and perceived effectiveness of the EMT+PE model for caregivers.
