ASAP NORWOOD DFC COALITION - THE ASAP NORWOOD COALITION SERVES NORWOOD, OHIO, A COMMUNITY OF 19,600 PEOPLE. THE GOALS OF THE COALITION ARE TO ESTABLISH AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY COLLABORATION IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL EFFORTS TO PREVENT YOUTH SUBSTANCE USE. THE COALITION WILL ACHIEVE ITS GOALS BY IMPLEMENTING THESE STRATEGIES: PROVIDING INFORMATION, PROVIDING SUPPORT, ENHANCING SKILLS, REDUCING ACCESS TO SUBSTANCES, AND CHANGING THE PHYSICAL DESIGN OF OUR ENVIRONMENT. FIRST, PROVIDE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY BY INCREASING PARTICIPATION AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL SECTORS AT OUR ASAP NORWOOD COALITION MEETINGS. SECOND, ENHANCE THE SKILLS OF OUR COALITION MEMBERS AND LOCAL PARTNERS BY PROVIDING PREVENTION EDUCATION THAT IS EVIDENCE-BASED. THIRD, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT, WE WILL UTILIZE COMPLIANCE CHECKS TO ENSURE THAT POINT OF SALE POLICIES ARE BEING FOLLOWED BY RETAILERS. FOURTH, CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY BY INCREASING THE AVAILABILITY OF ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES (SPECIFICALLY IN OUR LOCAL PARKS) TO YOUTH. FIFTH, PROVIDE SUPPORT TO OUR YOUTH AND ENHANCE THEIR SKILLS BY CREATING A TEEN PREVENTION CERTIFICATE PILOT PROGRAM THAT WE CAN TEST AND MEASURE, THEN SHARE WITH OTHERS. SIXTH, PROVIDE SUPPORT TO OUR YOUTH BY DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING A MENTORING CURRICULUM THAT INCLUDES COMMUNITY MEMBERS FROM MULTIPLE GENERATIONS (ADULT TO HIGH SCHOOL TO MIDDLE SCHOOL). LAST, ENHANCE THE SKILLS OF BOTH OUR YOUTH AND ADULTS BY CREATING A YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL THAT CAN SIT WITH OUR LOCAL CITY COUNCIL TO INCREASE POLITICAL EFFICACY AND ACTIVISM.
